6 Reasons Why You Should Start Your Online Business Now
I had always worked for full-time jobs since I graduated from college. The thought of starting my own online never struck me because luckily I was happy with my jobs, love the people (majority of them I'd say shh.... ) I worked with, and I found myself learning and growing and then getting comfortable with my work. On the flip side, I didn't know where to get started even if I want to start my own business. I didn't have a lot of spare money to invest in it and right I was very busy with my day job already. So why starting my own business?
Cut the long story short. I quit my job in early 2021 due to personal reason and it bought me time to think about what I wanted to do next. I took a few months off, took a couple of candle making workshops (my newly developed interest then) and then one day I came across a Youtuber who was also a chandler saying that her candle warning label design was now available on her Etsy shop for sell. I was inspired by this. I have been using various creative software to create social media design at my previous jobs so I thought: I didn't know I could do that but I could do that!
I'm absolutely still a newbie in the online business world, but I'd love to share with you, after being an online seller for almost a year, 6 reasons why I'm loving it and encourage anyone who's considering to just go right ahead!
The World is Wide Open = Opportunity's Everywhere
Technology has helped us to reach out to people around the world. Hundreds of millions of people are connected to the Internet and using it to conduct business, research and social interaction. We are no longer restricted by distance, but we can now serve anyone in the world. We can provide goods and services to anyone, anywhere in the world. This means that even if people in your community does not need or like what you create, no problemo, people in Norway or Singapore may! We are no longer limited to doing business only with local people, but we can also serve (aka earn money from) anyone around the world.
With the advances in technology people can now access your web presence or blog 24/7. If you've got a computer, tablet and/or smartphone they will be able to visit your web site or blog at any time and get the information they need when they need it.
Besides being able to reach a bigger audience with my work, I'm always excited to see people from a new country or new city purchasing one of my listings. I feel connected with them. It's like making new friends from around the world.
Be your own boss
I love being in full control of my own online business because it lets me focus on the very things that interest me most and this can make it easier for me to sustain my efforts and maintain motivation.
Yes I loved my previous jobs, but there were times when I would do things differently if I was the boss. I wasn't saying my way would be better but I hate the feeling of never knowing if I'd success or loss, because my boss had decided which way to go for me already.
Being your own boss you have the say to everything. From the font you use for your website to how many listings to put up within a month to the type of products to provide. You don't need to seek the approval of anyone before you make any changes and that saves a lot of time! No more reports and meetings! More time to get things done.
As the ultimate plus, you get to do what you love and align your business to match with your personal mission or ethics. Whether you have a burning passion to help others develop their own skills, or you have a product/service that can provide lots of benefits to other individuals and businesses, you decide the direction of your business. There's no better job than the one that match with your personal goals.
Work whenever you want
Being an online business owner means you'll have much more flexibility in setting up a work schedule that suits your needs.
You can choose when, and if, you want to work, how many hours per week you want to work, and which days of the week. This means that you can relax for the weekend, and choose how to be productive based on when is the best time to be productive. You can work on your projects early in the morning, or you can have a better quality of work when you are not focused on work. Instead of restricting yourself to work within 9-5 on Monday to Friday.
You will have more flexibility in your schedule to focus on important activities both inside and outside of your business and to make more time for things that matter to you (apart from your business).
You don't have to be paid by the hour to enjoy the freedom that comes from owning your own business. Whether your business is new or already established, the income you receive is determined by how productive you are and how well your systems work, not the number of hours you work.
Work wherever you want
You don't have to be stuck behind a desk or in a single physical location to be an online business. As long as you have an internet connection and a laptop you can do business anywhere in the world.
You are free to travel and choose where you want to work. That's extremely liberating. Whether you're planning a trip to see your family in another state or going to a place where you're not likely to be seen, your business will always be with you.
Most online businesses don’t require much commuting time. That’s a huge time-saver. Working from home is a luxury for those who don't have to commute and the freedom you get from working where you choose means you can be much more productive and have much more freedom to set up a schedule that works much more efficiently and flexibly.
I love this flexibility because with my laptop, I can work pretty much anywhere. Sometimes I am more focus in my study room or sometimes in a cafe down the street, I have the freedom to move around and stay productive in the way I want.
Get paid while you sleep
Unlike most regular jobs, an online business continues to run and connect with people to share information and sell products while you sleep. You don’t have to be physically present to run the business (Mmm physically present where? ). You just need to consistently put forth your best effort and focus on the right things to grow and sustain your business.
A successful online store will work for you and give you passive income in return as you grow your business. Having a way to supplement some, or even all of your income is something that will make it easier to grow a thriving business.
I love it when that Cha-chiang sound late at night or when I saw the orders coming in when I checked my email in the morning. What I have created is working for me 24/7, not me working for a job 9-5.
You can run multiple businesses
In the internet world, there is no limit to what you can do and the way to do things. An online store can be run as a hobby, part time or full time business.
Unlike traditional brick and mortar stores, there are no set hours or places to do business. What is even better is that with the flexibility of running an online business, you can run more than one to build your streams of income.
For example if you love video making and want to leverage this interest to start your channel on Youtube, you can choose to stand in front of the camera or behind, either way you will be able to build an audience, as long as you create valuable content.
There's no limit of what you can do on the internet. There are numerous examples out there who have became successful as an online seller, a youtuber and an online course teacher all at the same time. If they can do it, we can do it!
Conclusion
Starting my online business has changed my life. It was such a freeing experience to get to work on the things I really love doing. I am much more creative and I have much more time to spend with my family and friends.
I am so excited to share with you my journey and encourage anyone who is thinking about doing something that will make you money to just go right ahead and do it!
I wish you all the success!
